
Manila mourns passing of Gloria Romero
MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna extended his heartfelt condolences on the demise of veteran actress and known as the “Queen of Philippine Cinema” Gloria Romero who passed away on Saturday at the age of 91.
“As Mayor of Manila, the cradle of Philippine movies and home of the country’s first movie theaters, I join Manileños and the Filipino nation in mourning the passing of Gloria Romero,” Mayor Lacuna stated.
The mayor said Filipinos have revered Gloria Romero for generations because of her sterling acting and graceful beauty
“I am declaring a three-day citywide period of mourning from Sunday, January 26, to Tuesday, January 28. Please note that this is not a public holiday, and work and classes will proceed as usual,” Lacuna said.
“I request the flag ceremonies on Monday, January 27, to include prayers for Gloria Romero, her family, colleagues, and fans,” the mayor added.
The city chief executive said Manila is grateful to Gloria Romero for having served as a guiding star of Filipino performing arts, culture, and family values.
