Man yields gun at Tanauan City checkpoint

CAMP GEN. MIGUEL MALVAR, Batangas – A 26-year-old man possessing a handgun was arrested by authorities when stopped at the police checkpoint in Tanauan City, Batangas, the other day.

According to the report of Batangas Police Director Col. Glicerio C. Cansilao, to P/Brig. Gen. Antonio C. Yarra, regional director of PRO-Calabarzon (Police Regional Office-Cavite/Laguna/Batangas/Rizal/Quezon), said the suspect is a construction worker,single, native of Casiguran, Sorsogon and currently residing in San Isidro Sur, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas.

According to the Tanauan City Police, the suspect was arrested after passing through the checkpoint around 10:20 p.m. and halted to inspect the motorcycle he was driving and asked for documents such as the driver’s license and motorcycle papers, but he refused.

However, the police again insisted that the said documents needed to be shown for verification purposes, so the suspect voluntarily opened his bag, where the police found a short type of firearm.

Recovered from the suspect were a black Honda motorcycle, a revolver without a serial number, and six bullets for cal. 22, some unfired bullets (12 gauge), and a gray sling bag.

The suspect is charged with violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
