A 22-YEAR-OLD jobless man was killed in a running gun battle with a lawman Sunday afternoon in Caloocan city.

Caloocan police chief P/Col. Samuel Mina said elements of the Caloocan Police Sub-Station 12, led by P/Capt. John David Chua, were conducting detective patrol along Phase 9, Langit Road, Brgy. 176 Bagong Silang at around 5:30 p.m. when P/Cpl. Leobert Rivera spotted Anlou Resusta, resident of Phase 8, Bagong Silang, with a gun visibly tucked in his waist while on board a motorcycle.

Rivera accosted Resusta but instead of yielding, the suspect sped away on board his motorcycle prompting the police officer to give chase.

When the suspect noticed the pursuing lawman, he pulled out his firearm and shot Rivera which prompted the police officer to retaliate and hit Resusta, causing injury in his body.

The suspect was rushed by personnel of Sub-Station 12 to Bermudez Hospital but was later transferred to Caloocan City North Medical Center where he was declared dead-on-arrival due to gunshot wounds in the body.

Responding elements of the Northern Police District-Crime Laboratory Office (NPD-CLO) recovered six empty shells for a .9mm caliber pistol from the crime scene while and Armscor .9mm pistol with magazine loaded with five live bullets was recovered from the slain suspect.

Mina said case investigator P/Cpl Karl Piggangay is still conducting criminal background check on the slain suspect.
