Man with gun, drugs nabbed in Q.C. anti-car theft operations
A MAN was apprehended by agents of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group for illegally using an improvised plate on his car and found himself in deeper trouble when a search of the vehicle yielded an unlicensed gun and suspected shabu and Ecstasy tablets, PNP-HPG director, Brigadier General Eleazar P. Matta yesterday said.
According to the official, members of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit-National Capital Region and Q.C. District Highway Patrol Team were conducting a ‘spotting operation’ at the corner of Tomas Morato Street and E. Rodriguez Avenue, Q.C. at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday last week when they spotted the suspect driving a Hyundai Accent with an improvised plate.
When signaled to stop for a routine inspection, the driver stepped on the gas and tried to flee, triggering a chase. He was eventually cornered at the corner of Scout Reyes St. and Scout Delgado St. in Barangay Paligsahan.
Brig. Gen. Matta said that while being questioned, the driver was seen by the HPG officers reaching toward the floor of the vehicle. He later admitted to having a gun.
In the presence of Bgy. Paligsahan officials, members of the Q.C. Police District Station 10 and his counsel, the suspect’s vehicle was searched by the HPG men leading to the recovery of a loaded caliber 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 15 bullets, a plastic sachet containing nine green suspected Ecstasy tablets and a heart-sealed plastic sachet containing suspected shabu granules.
The suspect was taken to the RHPU-NCR for investigation and filing of criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013, the Omnibus Election Code and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
