A man allegedly involved in illicit online selling of endangered birds was arrested in an entrapment in Novaliches, Quezon City, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) reported on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as alias Regor, is now in jail for selling a ‘Sun Conure,’ an endangered bird also known as the sun parakeet, a medium-sized, vibrantly colored parrot.

According to PNP-ACG director, Brigadier General Ronnie Francis M. Cariaga, his men arrested the suspect during an entrapment with the support of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Q.C. Police District.

He said that the operation was triggered by their intensified cyber-patrolling against the illegal sale of wildlife online.

“Wild animals should never be removed from their natural habitats.

The illegal trade of these species is against the law and carries severe legal consequences,” Cariaga said.
