A MAN lost his right foot in an apparent suicide attempt after he jumped off the train platform of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Wednesday before dawn in Caloocan City.

Report reaching the office of Caloocan Police Chief P/Col. Samuel Mina, Jr. showed that the victim, of Central Street, Parada Santa Maria, Bulacan, jumped into the northbound railway of Monumento LRT Station in front of an incoming train with body number 1221 driven by Silverio Ayat, bound to Balintawak Station at around 4:45 a.m.

As a result, the victim’s right foot was cut off when he was sideswiped by the train, resulting in severe injury.

Caloocan Police Homicide Investigator P/SSgt. Julius Mabasa said the victim was immediately rushed by the responding Caloocan City Rescue Team to Jose Reyes Memorial and Medical Center but was later transferred to Philippine General Hospital (PGH), where he is currently confined in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after he underwent medical treatment.

Sgt. Mabasa said the train operation of LRT Line 1 from R. Papa Station to Balintawak Station was temporarily suspended but was back to normal at around 6:20 a.m. after Nurse Joy Villados of LifeLine 16911 retrieved the amputated leg from the rail track.
