Man killed after shooting driver inside Cabanatuan subd.
CABANATUAN CITY — A man who shot dead a 52-year-old driver inside a posh subdivision here was neutralized after he engaged responding policemen in a shootout Saturday afternoon here.
Police said the shooting incident took place in Block 6, Lot 4 of the North Grove Subdivision in Bgy. Valdefuente at 4:45 p.m.
Killed in the first shooting was Roberto Dela Cruz, 53, driver, of Bgy. Calipahan, Talavera, Nueva Ecija.
Dela Cruz was inside the administration office of North Grove when the suspect known only as Jelo, arrived and without any provocation repeatedly shot him with a short firearm, killing him on the spot.
After the shooting, Jelo fled on foot towards west direction as the subdivision guard sought help from the police, who were at that time patrolling the vicinity.
The responding police officers accosted the suspect but the latter immediately fired at them, prompting them to return fire, hitting the suspect in the chest that caused his instantaneous death.
Patrolaman Narciso Agulan Jr., officer on case, said they are still investigating the motive in the killing of the victim.
