A 44-year-old public utility vehicle (PUV) driver who was allegedly “dumped” by his girlfriend for another man was arrested by police for firing his gun indiscriminately while having a drinking spree with his friend Thursday afternoon in Navotas City.

Navotas Police Chief P/Col. Dexter Ollaging said elements of Sub-Station 3 led by P/Corporals Sancho Lee and Jerico Dacula arrested the driver in front of his house at Barangay San Jose at around 5:20 p.m. after he was accused by his neighbors of firing his gun indiscriminately while under the influence of liquor.

Police recovered from the suspect a caliber Colt .45 pistol with a magazine loaded with three live ammunition, while his drinking buddy, a 23-year-old man, was also arrested for causing alarm and scandal.

Ollaging said the suspect admitted firing his gun, which he said he bought three days ago from a man in Tondo, Manila, for P5,000, using the money he borrowed from a loan shark.

He said he was forced to buy the gun after the lover of his former girlfriend, who was also a PUV driver, allegedly threatened that something would happen to him if he continued his desire to win back the woman he loved.

Case investigators P/Cpl. Dandy Sargento said the suspect was charged with violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearm and Ammunition Act while Alarm and Scandal in relation to S.A.F.E. NCRPO initiated by P/Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo will be filed against his drinking buddy before the Navotas City Prosecutor’s Office.
