TWO of the country’s brightest bets in golf in the 31st Southeast Asian Games — Rianne Malixi and Kristoffer Arevalo — will be the special guests in Thursday’s People Sports Conversations presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Malixi and Arevalo will talk about the chances of the seven-member Filipino delegation in the biennial competition scheduled May 12-23 in Hanoi, Vietnam..

Joining them in the 1 p.m. program supported by Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Pioneer and Pocari Sweat is coach Norman Sto. Domingo.

The 15-year-old Malixi dominated the women’s qualifying tournament for the SEA Games with a four-day total of 594 at the Luisita Golf and Country Club last March.

That was 17 strokes ahead of Arnie Taguines and 23 shots up on Mafy Singson.

Arevalo, 23, is one of two players personally handpicked by the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) to join the four-man men’s team.

Arevalo outduelled Rho Hyun Ho and Perry Bucay to rule the National Stroke Play Championship at Manila Southwoods’ Legends course last April 24.

Aside from Malixi and Arevalo. the other members of the national team are Jet Hernandez, Jed Dy and Gab Manotoc in the men’s squad; and Lois Kay and Maffy Singson in the women’s team.

The women’s team is gunning for a repeat of its gold medal sweep when the country hosted the SEA Games in 2019.

The men’s team, on the other hand, is aiming to end a 12-year gold medal drought.
