Malaysian robbed of P8M at Skyway

A MALAYSIAN national and his Filipino driver were robbed at gunpoint by thieves who carted away more than P8 million in cash at the elevated portion of the Skyway in Taguig City.

The robbery occurred at around 3:20 p.m. on August 21, 2022. The report was released to the media on Sunday by the Southern Police District (SPD) with the permission and authority of Acting District Director P/Col. Kirby John Brion Kraft.

Investigation showed that while the victims, Jiao Hao Leong, a Malaysian national and resident of Sea Residences, Pasay City and his driver Bernie Honrado, 33, of Tanza, Cavite were travelling on board a Toyota Alphard van at the Northbound elevated loop portion of Skyway from Okada Manila in Paranaque City, carrying P8,120,000.00 cash on their way to Makati City to deliver the money intended for the building renovation when a red Toyota Vios car bearing conduction sticker S1K754l blocked their path.

Three men wearing face masks and bonnets and armed with unknown caliber of firearms alighted from the car and shot the hood of the victim’s vehicle then smashed its side window using a steel axe and declared a holdup.

One of the suspects took the key from Honrado and used it to open the the rear passenger door and at gunpoint took the cash from Hao Leong, along with his sling bag containing containing his identification cards, house key, iPhone 7 and ₱240,000 in cash. Then he immediately sped away towards Makati.

In coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) the conduction sticker was registered to a 2021 alumina jade metallic Toyota Vios in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental which implies that the sticker used by the suspects was tampered.

Col. Kraft said investigation is still ongoing for the possible identification and apprehension of the suspects.
