The proprietors of a popular resort in Malaysia took to social media to deny claims of paranormal activity occurring at the site and threatened to sue a former guest who had shared her spooky story online. The weird dispute reportedly erupted last week when Tiya Ahmad posted on Facebook about eerie happenings that she had experienced during a recent visit to the Lotus Desaru Beach Resort and Spa in the town of Kota Tinggi. Her recounting of the unsettling events quickly went viral in Malaysia and, shortly thereafter, the resort offered a rather furious response to the burgeoning rumor that the site was haunted.

In their own post on Facebook, the resort declared that the story was “fake news” and insisted that they “have not encountered any such unearthly or mystical issues” from the opening of the site in 2009 up until the present. They went on to warn that “we will not hesitate to take legal action” against “those who spread false news” about their resort. Ahmad subsequently deleted her post which caused all the commotion, though later claimed that she did so not out of fear of retaliation from the resort, but because the widespread discussion
about the matter had caused her to become “traumatized and restless.”

No doubt much to the chagrin of the resort, regardless of why Ahmad rescinded her story, it would appear that her account struck something of a nerve among other former guests, who also recalled having similar paranormal experiences at the site. One individual remembered having the doors of their room “randomly lock” and that they would only open if the person “asked to be let in,” while another said that they heard disembodied crying coming from the bathroom that left them hiding beneath their blanket in fright. So while the resort may have put a stop to Ahmad’s story spreading online, it would seem that they probably should have said nothing at all, since now there are even more ghost stories attached to the site.
