A POLICE officer was shot and wounded by a still unidentified assailant Monday evening in Malabon City.

P/SMSgt. Samuel Peralta, 42, assigned at the Northern Police District (NPD) and resident of Inocencia St., Bgy. Tugatog was rushed to Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound in his right elbow.

Report reaching the office of the Malabon Police chief P/Col. Samuel Barot showed that while the victim was about to alight from his driven Yamaha NMax motorcycle in front of his house at around 6:20 p.m., a lone gunman appeared and shot him several times, hitting his right elbow.

After the incident, the suspect immediately fled on board a black Honda motorcycle without a plate number heading towards Honradez St., Bgy. Tugatog and made good in his escape.

Case investigators P/SSgt. Jeric Tindugan and P/Cpl. Rocky Pagindas said responding elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) led by P/Maj. Sonny Boy Tepace recovered four empty shells, three deformed fired bullets, and a metallic fragment for the still unknown caliber of a firearm from the crime scene.

According to his fellow police officers from the NPD, Peralta, whose family was engaged in rent-a-van business, had not been involved in any criminal or illegal activities and was considered as one of the good cops.

Probers are still conducting a thorough investigation to determine the motive behind the failed murder while a follow-up operation was still ongoing for the possible identification and arrest of the gunman.
