A 56-year-old mother who witnessed a gruesome murder of an 18-year-old student suffered extreme grief after she discovered that the victim was her own son Thursday before dawn in Malabon City.

The lifeless body of John Michael Legaspi, resident of 258 Dulong Hernandez St. Brgy. Catmon, was discovered by barangay watchmen slumped face down in the dimly lit portion of Sacabica St., Dumpsite Brgy. Catmon, prompting them to report the incident to the police.

The victim’s mother Emilinda Legaspi, a widow, was still sleeping at their home when she was awakened by her neighbor to tell her that her son was found dead along Sacabica Street, only a few meters away from their area.

Emilinda told the Malabon police homicide investigators P/SSgt. Ernie Baroy and P/Cpl Renz Marlon Baniqued that she witnessed the gruesome murder not knowing that the victim was her own son.

She told police that at around 3:30 a.m., she was awakened by a noise prompting her to go outside where she saw three men dragging a male person but she recognized only one of the suspects as Erron Fulgar, 31, since he was her neighbor.

She secretly followed them until they reached the dimly lit portion of Sacabica St. where she saw the suspects take turns in stabbing the victim in different parts of his body.

Terrified by the grisly scene she was witnessing, Emilinda immediately went home for fear that the suspects might see and kill her too.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Albert Barot said joint elements of Station Investigation and Detective Management Branch (SIDMB), a follow-up unit and intelligence section are now conducting a hot pursuit operation for possible arrest of Fulgar and his two cohorts.
