LWUA: 48 years of reliable water to Filipinos
THE Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) ramps up operations as it marks almost half a century of providing potable water to Filipinos in the countryside.
Newly-designated Administrator Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong said the agency aims to almost double the coverage of households by next year.
“We are looking at an estimated 96% increase in the number of families with access to safe water,” he noted. He added that the same target has been eyed for access to basic sanitation — also increasing the number of households to almost twice.
“Our mantra here is safe water must be afforded to every Filipino,” Mamondiong said.
Currently, some 5 million families across the country — or 25 million individuals — are enjoying affordable and clean water provided by LWUA through the more than 500 water districts in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Last year alone, an additional 1.4 million residents were added to the population served after the completion of 57 water supply projects
LWUA, the agency mandated to provide water outside of Metro Manila, will mark its 48th year on September 18, 2021.
