THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to inspect bus terminals and ground that are unfit to “travel” to ensure the safety of the expected exodus of commuters and travellers to the provinces this Holy Week.

Lawyer Clarence V. Guinto, Director of the LTO-Law Enforcement Service and director of LTO-National Capital Region-West in the interview said imter-agency personel will be dispatched to all bus terminals, exit and entrance points of Metro Manila under the program dubbed “Oplan Harabas.”

The agency is heeding strict instructions of Transportation Sec. Art Tugade and Assistant Sec. and LTO Chief Edgar Galvante to make sure that passenger vehicles, especially public transportation (buses, taxi, jeepneys, tnvs, even truck)are in good condition to travel long distances and ferry passengers safely to their destinations safely, said Guinto.

Guinto said each IG team is composed of personnel from the LTO-Central Office and Education, Philippine Drug enforcement Agency (PDEA), Department of Public Work Highways (DPWH) PNP-Highway Patrol Group, local PNP, and PNP-Crime Laboratory Office.

“Yung DPWH kaya kasama natin para naman dun sa mga trucks na overloading. Sa experience ng tropa marami ang nag-vaviolate ng batas at ang iba ay lango sa illegal drugs (shabu),” said Guinto.

The IG team will also be conducting road safety seminars for drivers, said Guinto.

“Dapat 100% physically, spiritually, and emotionally conditioned ang lahat. Dahil split second na pagkakamali lang o isang blink lang posibleng maraming buhay ang mawala. We must remember, isa lang ang buhay natin at hindi na ito maibabalik,” stressed Guinto.
