THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued more than 1,100 Show Cause Orders (SCOs) against erring motor vehicle owners and drivers since January this year, a significant improvement in terms of the agency’s active response in enforcing traffic rules and regulations for the safety of all road users.

One of the most significant improvements in terms of LTO’s active response is the social media monitoring of traffic rules and regulations violations, including cases of road rage, that serve as the basis of the issuance of SCO.

“Active social media monitoring, and even active monitoring of the traditional media, in our efforts to perform the LTO’s mandate of ensuring road safety is one of the new normal in the agency,” said Mendoza.

“Halos lahat ng Pilipino ay merong mga social media accounts at mga smartphones at sila ang nagiging mga mata at tenga ng LTO sa mga abusadong motorista. Ang kanilang mga pino-post sa social media ang nagsisilbing basis natin upang mag-imbestiga,” he added.

Based on the LTO data, a total of 1,126 SCOs have been issued since January this year.

Of the figure, a total of 508 of them were related to the violations of the provisions of the Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, which include improper person to operate a motor vehicle which is punishable by either suspension or revocation of a driver’s license.

A total of 448 of the SCOs issued were related to the use of fake licenses while 74 were related to the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, 69 were related to the road incidents reported to the LTO Central Command Center and 27 were related to double licenses.

He said the LTO’s active stand on road-related incidents is part of the advocacy of DOTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista to ensure the safety of all road users and the LTO’s newly launched project, the Stop Road Crash.
