THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) and suspended for 90 days the license of the driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) whose video of stopping in the middle of C-5 in Taguig City last Nov. 24 to confront a truck driver went viral on social media.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the registration of the white Ford Explorer of the driver has also been suspended pending the result of the ongoing investigation of the LTO-National Capital Region.

In the video, the driver was seen stopping his vehicle in the middle of C-5 Road after an apparent road courtesy-related issue with the truck driver.

He then went out of the SUV and was seen in the video shouting at the truck driver while demanding for the latter’s driver’s license.

“Personal kong nakita ang video at nakita natin ang mga violations na nagawa ng SUV driver kaya agad kong inatasan ang LTO-NCR na magsagawa ng imbestigasyon tungkol dito,” said Mendoza.

In the SCO signed by LTO-NCR Regional Director Roque Verzosa III, the driver of the SUV was asked to submit a notarized written explanation as to why he should not be penalized for violating at least three traffic rules under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 and Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

The three violations are reckless driving, obstruction of traffic and improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

In the same SCO, the SUV driver, who lives in Taguig City, was ordered to appear before the LTO-NCR Office on December 4.

The Office of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista was already informed of the LTO action in connection with the latest viral road rage incident.
