THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver/owner of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that allegedly hit and killed a motorcycle rider and injured the backrider early morning along Taft Avenue in Manila.

A show cause order was issued by the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID), directing the driver/owner of the SUV, a Subaru Forester with plate number AMC-528, to appear at the Intelligence Investigation Division (IID) office located at the second floor of the Law Enforcement and Traffic Adjudication Service (LETAS) Building, LTO Central Office, East Avenue, Quezon City on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 10 a.m.

The driver/owner of the SUV was told to submit a letter to comment or explain why he/she should not be administratively charged for Reckless Driving and Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, and why his/her driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle as per provisions under Sec. 27(a) of Republic Act 4136.

Also, the order notes that due to the gravity and severity of the act, the vehicle and the name of the driver/owner are placed under alarm to prevent him/her from engaging in any and all transactions while the case is under investigation.

If the driver/owner fails to appear at the IID office and submit a letter of explanation, it shall be deemed as a waiver of the right to be heard and thus, the case shall be decided upon based on evidence at hand, according to the Order.

“The frequency of these kinds of incidents happening around us is getting to be alarming. The LTO will continue to be vigilant in monitoring these cases and render immediate action to serve as example and lesson to other drivers,” says LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Teofilo Guadiz III.
