LTO summons driver that rammed traffic enforcer in Bulacan
THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver of a vehicle which accidentally hit a traffic enforcer in Sta. Maria, Bulacan Tuesday.
A video of the incident went viral on social media.
According to LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza, both the driver and the registered owner of the Toyota Avanza (NIO-3457) were asked to explain in writing why they should not be held liable over what happened.
The traffic enforcer identified as Salvador Marquez Dela Cruz Jr. was injured.
“Based on the initial investigation, the driver of the vehicle fell asleep while driving and this resulted in this unfortunate incident,” Mendoza said.
A show-cause order (SCO) was already issued to the two as part of the due process.
The incident happened at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Paso, Bgy. Bagbaguin, Santa Maria town while the driver of the vehicle was traversing Santa Maria Bridge en route to Bgy. Bagbaguin.
Dela Cruz was then managing the traffic in the area when hit.
LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante said the driver of the vehicle was asked to explain why he should not be penalized for reckless driving and for being improper to operate a vehicle.
The penalty is either suspension or revocation of the driver’s license.
The owner of the vehicle was also asked to explain why he should not be penalized for violating pertinent traffic rules and regulations.
“Due to the gravity/severity of the acts of the driver, please be informed that the subject vehicle with plate no. NIO-3457 will be temporarily placed under alarm preventing any and all transactions while the case is under investigation,” the SCO read.
Mendoza said that failure of the subject persons to appear and submit written comment/explanation shall be construed as a waiver of their right to be heard and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand.
The LTO chief reminded drivers to take all the necessary measures to protect themselves and other road users amid the LTO’s aggressive “Stop Road Crash” nationwide campaign.
