IN line with the instruction of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista to keep all roads safe, Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II has committed to address the perennial problem of overloaded trucks usually seen in the provinces.

Mendoza said the LTO will strengthen the collaboration with other government agencies, such as the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) to solve the issue.

In a meeting with the PNP-HPG, Mendoza said Sen. Joel Villanueva mentioned the issue of overloaded trucks.

The senator said many overloaded trucks are passing in Bulacan and Pampanga.

“Sinabi ko kay sir (Senator Villanueva) tamang-tama may meeting kami ng HPG, isasama ko na ‘yung concern niyo para ma-aksyunan na namin ‘to.’

Although we’ll make it more consistent, kasama na sa ating operation plan on a month-to-month kung saan tayo magi-implement ng overloading kasi mayroon diyan eh, seven tons kase ‘yung… nagreklamo ang NLEX kase ‘yung truck 30 tons,” Mendoza said.

Overloaded trucks pose danger for all road users since they are more prone to mechanical problems like loss of brakes and even their drivers losing control of the vehicle.

These incidents usually cause fatal road accidents on other road users.

The PNP, for its part, said it would give instructions to the regional directors to address reports and complaints on the overloading trucks.
