LRT-1 Cavite extension
PRESIDENT Marcos inaugurated the other day, November 15, the first Light Rail Extension (LRT) Cavite extension project, greatly reducing travel time in Metropolitan Manila (MM).
The railway project calls for the extension of the LRT line from Quezon City to Bacoor City in the province of Cavite.
President Marcos hopes to see the completion of three more LRT stations until Bacoor City “in the sonnest possible time.”
It will be recalled that Marcos’ father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos (FEM), began the LRT-1 as the first light rail urban transit in the Southeast Asian region.
In 1965, FEM built the all-weather North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) linking the heavily-populated MM to the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga.
“On this day, no one is happier than his son in seeing that his father’s foresight is being validated by another work that expands the mass transit that he had built for the people that he loved,” said Bongbong.
The inauguration of the first LRT-1 Cavite Extension (LICE) Project marked a significant milestone in modernizing the transport system in the Philippines.
With the Phase 1 completion, LRT 1 will have the capacity to serve an additional 80,000 passengers every day.
The 6.5-kilometer Phase 1 connects the LRT-1 Baclaran Station to the five new stations.
Extending the LRT line to Cavite, one of the country’s fastest growing provinces, is without doubt a move in the right direction.
