
Loyzaga to be inducted into FIBA Hall of Fame
FILIPINO basketball legend Caloy “The Big Difference” Loyzaga will be among the basketball greats to be inducted when the much-awaited FIBA Hall of Fame Ceremony takes place on Aug. 23, two days before the formal opening of the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023.
Loyzaga will be inducted posthumously.
A two-time Olympian, Loyzaga is widely considered as the greatest Filipino basketball player of all time
Loyzaga is best remembered for leading the Philippines to a historic bronze medal finish during the 1954 FIBA World Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
As a member of the Philippine national team, he also represented the country in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics where the Philippines finished ninth and 1956 Melbourne Olympics where the country finished seventh.
As per FIBA, this year’s ceremony comes with an exciting twist, as FIBA has decided to open the doors of the ceremony to the public for the very first time since its establishment.
This would give fans who have been eagerly anticipating the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 an additional reason to rejoice.
Among the illustrious names set to join the pantheon of basketball greats are the towering Yao Ming of China double Olympic Champion Katrina McClain and Loyzaga
FIBA said these iconic individuals, alongside seven other extraordinary players and two exceptional coaches, will forever be remembered for their remarkable contributions to the sport, leaving an indelible mark on the history of international basketball.
