Local jobs
WITHOUT doubt, the dollar-oriented manpower export industry remains one of the major pillars of the Philippine economy.
In fact, the dollar remittances of our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) continue to help prop up the struggling economy.
However, there’s now the urgent need to create more quality local jobs to meet the employment needs of the people.
We should stop depending on other countries “para magkaroon ng trabaho ang ating mga kababayan,” a former OFW stressed.
He asked: “Paano kung tumigil na ang mga bansang ito, kabilang na ang Estados Unidos, na mag-import ng foreign workers?”
It will be recalled that the late President Ferdinand E.
Marcos launched the overseas employment program as a temporary scheme to address unemployment.
It is the wish of the current government to create more high-paying local jobs “para hindi na tayo kailangang mag-abroad para magkaroon ng magandang trabaho.”
“Ang gusto nga ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ay magiging option na lang ang pangingibang bansa para gumanda ang buhay,” a former OFW said.
