Letran bolsters semis bid

COMING off an impressive victory over defending champion San Beda Tuesday night, Letran posted back-to-back wins yesterday to bolster its semifinals aspirations in the NCAA beach volleyball tournament at the Subic Bay Sand Court.

An inspired pair of Cha Cuñada and Lara Mae Silva rout Arellano University’s Harem Ceballos and Marianne Padillon, 21-4, 21-13, and bested Jose Rizal University’s Karyla Jasareno and Marianne Aloña, 21-15, 21-7, right after the midday break.

Counting 21-18, 21-17 straight-set conquest of the Lady Red Spikers tandem of Trisha Paras and Max Tayag, the Lady Knights improved to 4-1.

“Siguro po, ina-apply lang namin po yung tinuturo po ni coach (Mike Inoferio) during sa training po,” Cuñada told GTV after the afternoon match.

“Yung pagiging focused sa training kasi kung ano ang ginagawa sa training, yun ang magre-reflect sa game,” the Misamis Oriental native added.

Meanwhile, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta extended its perfect run to four matches as Mary Ann Dapol and Janine Padua prevailed over Lyceum of the Philippines University’s Joan Daguna and Ritanhelle Perez, 21-13, 21-17, in the morning session.

Emilio Aguinaldo College kept within striking distance of Perpetual as Cathrine Almazan and Monna Bañares outlasted College of Saint Benilde’s Jessa Dorog and Wielyn Estoque, 21-16, 18-21, 15-7, for a 3-0 record.

The Lady Red Spikers rediscovered their winning ways as Paras and Maxine Tayag beat the Lady Bombers’

Jasareno and Aloña, 21-12, 21-19, and the Lady Pirates’ Daguna and Perez, 21-19, 21-14, for a 3-1 slate.

Kat Santos and Kristine Dionisio of San Sebastian survived Ceballos and Padillon of Arellano, 14-21, 21-17, 19-17, to give their school a 2-1 mark.

LPU’s Daguna and Perez turned back Mapua’s Francine Macatangay and Raina Vergino, 21-14, 21-19, to barge into the win column.

Men’s morning action saw Perpetual dominating LPU, 21-8, 21-15, titleholder EAC making short work of Benilde, 21-18, 21-12, Mapua outlasting LPU 21-18, 22-20, 15-11, Arellano sweeping San Sebastian, 21-13, 21-17, and Letran, 21-9, 21-17, and San Beda scoring a come-from10-21, 21-15, 15-13 win over JRU.

The Cardinals nipped the Blazers, 19-21, 21-18, 15-11, in the afternoon session.
