LETRAN yesterday announced the appointment of NCAA juniors basketball champion coach Allen Ricardo as the interim coach of the Knights.

Ricardo is currently handling the Squires who steered to a Season 98 title last year, the first since 2003.

He will be taking over from Rensy Bajar after Letran’s disappointing 2-16 record last year that ended the Knights’ three-season reign in men’s basketball.

Ricardo’s Squires currently hold a 1-1 juniors record. San Beda dealt Letran its first loss with a 88-72 win yesterday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

Kirk Cañete led the Red Cubs, who moved up to 1-1, with 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Randaile Madroso added 19 points and seven boards.

Mapua, San Sebastian and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta are holding similar 2-0 slates to gain a share of the lead.

Lawrence Mangubat logged 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals while Sean Salvador scored 14 points as the Red Robins hacked out an 89-73 win over La Salle Green Hills.

Ruvic Danag had 18 points and four assists while Jhun Penaverde contributed 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals to power the Staglets to a 101-62 rout of Lyceum of the Philippines University.

Mark Gojo Cruz recorded 26 points, eight boards and four assists while Icee Callangan added 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals as Junior Altas topped Emilio Aguinaldo College, 93-85.
