LAOAG, known as the country’s “Sunshine City”, takes centerstage anew with over 600 runners from different parts of the country taking part in the 3rd Laoag Sand Dunes Race on Saturday.

A brainchild of Laoag City Mayor and former Gintong Alay head Michael Keon, the event is part of the month-long celebration of the Pamulinawen Festival in Laoag.

Keon said the race, which features 5K and 10K distances, along with a separate 5K run for kids, is set against the undulating sand dunes which offers a unique challenge to participants.

“This is a sports tourism event of the city aimed at attracting visitors not just for the event but to see what Laoag City has to offer,” said Keon.

The top male and female participants of the 10K race will each take home a cash prize of P15,000, with a separate category for foreign participants.

Meanwhile, the 5K champions, including those in the kids’ division, will receive P10,000 each.

Adding to the excitement, all participants will have the chance to experience sandboarding and a thrilling 4×4 ride across the dunes.
