La Salle gets job done vs Perpetual
ECOOIL-La Salle overpowered University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 108-91, to earn a return trip to the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup Finals yesterday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
The Green Archers have an average winning margin of 23 points in the series, having won by 27 in last Thursday’s semifinals opener.
The reigning champions pounced on the Altas right off the bat with a staggering 28-13 start and never looked back on to clinch the first seat in the best-of-three title series.
EcoOil-DLSU will wait for another day to determine its championship opponent as Marinerong Pilipino-San Beda pummeled Wang’s Basketball @27 Strikers-Letran, 74-51, to square their semifinals series to one game apiece.
The deciding Game 3 is set at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Prince Alao fired 12 of his 22 points in the first half, JC Macalalag added 11 points while Kevin Quiambao, Bright Nwankwo and EJ Gollena each scored 10 points for the Green Archers, who led by as much as 28 points.
EcoOil-DLSU prevailed despite missing the services of guard Evan Nelle, who is nursing a minor calf injury.
“This is a venue to show and apply what we’re learning. Masaya kami sa pinakita namin this playoffs but we’re not contented yet,” said deputy mentor Gian Nazario, who’s steering the Green Archers D-League squad.
Perpetual, which finished the elims at No. 3, was led by John Abis’ 21 points, as top gun Cyrus Nitura misfired and could only muster four points.
