Kings whip Bossing

BARANGAY Ginebra celebrated the return of Jamie Malonzo with a convincing 86-63 victory over Blackwater in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The duo of resident import Justin Brownlee and rookie RJ Abarrientos provided the firepower for the Gin Kings who improved their record to 6-3 in a tie for third place with Convege FiberX and guest team Hong Kong Eastern.
The Tim Cone-mentored Kings also redeemed themselves from a narrow 116-119 defeat to the league-leading NorthPort Batang Pier last Wednesday.
Brownlee finished with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor, while adding seven rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes of action.
Abarrientos was the top local player for Ginebra with 15 points and two rebounds.
The Gin Kings also got 10 points and seven rebounds from veteran Japeth Aguilar, nine points and four rebounds from Maverick Ahanmisi and eight points each from Stephen Holt, Troy Rosario and Malonzo.
Scottie Thompson and Von Pessumal chipped in with five points each.
George King carried the fight for the Bossing as he finished with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-20 shooting, and six rebounds in 38 minutes of play for coach Jeff Cariaso,
Frederick Tungcab added 10 points while Rey Suerte had nine points for the Bossing, who dropped to 1-7.
The lopsided contest will be remembered for the return of Malonzo, who made his season debut for Ginebra since suffering a calf injury nine months ago.
The 6-6 Malonzo finished with eight points on 2-for-7 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line in nearly 11 minutes of action.
Malonzo made his presence felt in the third quarter, scoring six to fuel the Kings’ breakaway highlighted by a two-handed jam to end the break and give themselves a 62-41 lead with 2:37 remaining.
Ginebra’s next game will be against TNT Tropang Giga at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Friday.
