KEY SORTIE
THE senatorial candidates under the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas is set to win the hearts of the voters in Metro Manila as they mark the culmination of its campaign kick-offs on February 18.
The 12,000-capacity Cuneta Astrodome was chosen as the venue for the event meant to reinforce Alyansa’s push to dominate the National Capital Region (NCR), one of the country’s most decisive electoral battlegrounds.
The first kick-off rallies were held in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte for Luzon; Iloilo City for Visayas and Davao del Norte for Mindanao.
This will follow a full-force nationwide campaign for the May 2025 midterm elections.
Home to 13.48 million residents, NCR has 7.32 million registered voters, making it a critical stronghold in the 2025 elections.
The region played a crucial role in the 2022 polls, where 5.96 million people cast their ballots.
In that election, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. secured 3.26 million votes, sweeping all 17 cities and municipalities in Metro Manila — a victory the administration now aims to replicate by securing a strong Senate slate.
“We started strong in Ilocos Norte, brought our message to Visayas and Mindanao, and now we are in the heart of the capital,” said Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco, Alyansa’s campaign manager.
“Metro Manila is crucial to winning in 2025, and this rally will show that we are ready to bring our vision of progress and unity to every Filipino,” Tiangco added.
The event is expected to be a massive show of force for the current administration, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and key allies rallying behind Alyansa’s powerhouse 12-member Senate slate.
The line-up includes former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, Senator Pia Cayetano, Senator Imee Marcos, Senator Lito Lapid, former Senators Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Manny Pacquiao, Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senator Francis “Tol” Tolentino, former Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo, and Deputy Speaker Camille Villar.
With Metro Manila playing a decisive role in the 2022 elections, the administration’s campaign is focused on locking in voter support and sustaining momentum throughout the campaign period.
