JRU retains NCAA athletics crown

JOSE Rizal University became the NCAA athletics back-to-back champions at the end of the two-day meet Thursday night at the Philsports Oval.

With Dhem Monton leading the way, the Bombers collected 685 points to capture their seventh crown overall in the competition’s return after a three-year hiatus.

Monton took the 800-meter, 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter golds for the Mandaluyong-based trackster.

Mapua, JRU’s perennial rival, took the second place honors with 661 points.

The Cardinals have something to celebrate about as Algin Gomez became the meet’s most bemedalled athlete after winning four golds in the 100-meter dash, long jump, triple jump and in the 4 x 100-meter relay.

University of Perpetual Help System Dalta placed third with 389 points highlighted by Russel Ricaforte’s record-breaking gold medal performance in the discus throw.

Arellano University took fourth with 283.5 points, followed by San Beda (160.5), College of Saint Benilde (122), Letran (65.5), Emilio Aguinaldo College (29.5), Lyceum of the Philippines University (25) and San Sebastian (7.5).
