Job fairs

TO address the employment situation, many sectors said concerned government agencies, notably the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), must work in unison with the private sector.

And that’s what the labor department, headed by Secretary Bienvenido “Benny” Laguesma, has been doing, drawing cheers and applause from members of the working class.

Like other well-meaning Filipinos, we commend DOLE officials for partnering with the private sector in delivering employment facilitation services to the jobseeking public.

Last October 13, DOLE and real estate giant Megaworld signed a memorandum of agreement designating Megaworld Lifestyle Malls as partner venues of satellite job fairs.

The labor and employment secretary and Megaworld Lifestyle Malls Asst. Vice President Michael Lao signed the agreement at the DOLE central office in Intramuros, Manila.

Under the memorandum of agreement, Megaworld waives rental and utility charges during job fairs and other DOLE-initiated activities and help in marketing the events.

Lao said the collaboration “is aligned” with Megaworld’s commitment to support President Marcos’ administration, which ends at 12 noon on June 30, 2028, and its objectives.

The Marcos government hopes to speed up the country’s socio-economic development and uplift the living conditions of Filipinos, particularly the poorest of the poor.

In the view of many, government authorities have to work with the private sector if we are to move forward.
