
JGFP Inter-School resumes at Caliraya
THE Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) Inter-School warm-up tournaments will continue with the Caliraya Springs Junior Open on Sept. 2-3.
JGFP president Oliver Gan said the prestigious, two-day tournament is open to players from six to18 years old.
The event is the second of a series of warm-up tournaments being held before the Inter-School Golf Championships scheduled on Oct. 7.
Last Aug. 19, the JGFP hosted the Royale Tagaytay Country Club Junior Open also for players six to19 years old.
After Caliraya, the JGFP will also hold another warm-up tournament at the Mimosa Junior Open on Sept. 9-10.
Three tournaments are also lined-up on Sept. 17: Riviera Sports and Country Club (Grade 1-3); Club Intramuros Golf Course (Grade 4-9) and Eagle Ridge (Grade 8-10).
On Oct. 1, the JGFP will organize the Royale Tagaytay Inter-School warm-up for Kinder to Grade 6, and the Summit Point Inter-School warm-up for Grade 7-12.
“Yhese tournaments are part of our preparations for the JGFP Inter-School on Oct. 7,” said Gan, a former jungolf champion himself.
“These warm-up tournaments will help our young shot-makers to polish their game and get accustomed to grinding competition,” added Gan.
He also thanked the management of the golf courses for helping the JGFP achieve its goals.
“We are very thankful to the management of these golf courses because they allowed us to partner with them, ensuring the continued development of our young players,” he added.
“We are very excited that in the coming months we will be holding our main tournaments starting with the Inter-School. But before that, we’ll have events so that our players will be able to test the courses. As golfers, it’s important that you know the golf course.”
Gan said the JGFP board has approved its calendar of events that aims to continue the development of not just the young players but the sport as well.
“The board has listed several events including the Inter-School meet to be played in various golf courses that have partnered with the JGFP.” he added.
The six golf courses will be the venues for the Inter-School.
After that, the JGFP will also hold tournaments in Davao at Apo Golf and in Del Monte and Pueblo in Cagayan de Oro in the first two weeks of January 2024.
The Inter-School series starts on Oct. 7 October in Caliraya; Tagaytay on Oct. 7-8, Eagle Ridge on Oct. 8 and Oct. 22, wnd Intramuros on Nov. 25-26.
For Grades 1-3 it will be 25 to 26 November at Eagle Ridge and 2 to 3 December for Grades 4-12.
Meanwhile, the Inter-School will continue to have the four divisions, Grades 1-3 Lower School, Grades 4-6 Middle School, Grades 7-9 Junior High School and Grades 10-12 Senior High School.
Xavier School will try to defend its overall titles in the Inter-School and Developmental, while the Immaculate Conception Academy in San Juan will try to make it back-to-back championships in the girl’s category of the developmental division.
The finals, on the other hand, for lower tournaments will be played Nov. 25-26 25 at Riviera Sports while the other three divisions will be held on Dec. 2-3 at Eagle Ridge.
