Jepney driver dies in head-on collision in Sta. Rosa

A 45-YEAR-OLD jeepney driver died in a head-on collision with a truck, while three others were injured on Sunday morning along National Highway Bgy. Tagapo, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

Sta. Rosa City Police identified the fatality as Rufino Ante Mitra, driver of jeepney and resident of San Miguel, Alaminos, Laguna.

The three injured passengers were John Leo San Jose, 20, helper, of Lavander Lane Phase 2 Pacita 2, San Vicente, San Pedro City, Laguna, and Dharil Coballes Comida, 32, helper, of Bgy. San Miguel Alaminos, Laguna.

According to the initial investigation, the accident happened at about 4:30 a.m. in front of Sta. Rosa Mega Cockpit in Bgy. Tagapo.

Both vehicles were traversing the national highway in the opposite direction. The jeepney overtook the northbound lane and crossed the southbound lane where the truck was positioned, hitting it head-on.

The passengers and drivers were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment; however, the jeepney driver died while undergoing treatment.
