JC de Vera was elated to have been asked to join the sterling cast of the Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean series Flower of Evil, which is now receiving great reviews and is the first Philippine series to be released in 16 countries worldwide.

“It was a chance to do something different, because I have always played the leading man or the romantic interest or the third wheel in my past projects,” confesses JC on why he jumped at the opportunity of taking in the role of a detective agent in the series.

Last year, however, JC also got to play an offbeat role as the spoiled heir who was out to avenge his family’s misfortunes in La Vida Lena.

By getting very good reviews as a “baddie,” JC’s transformation was a success.

“I really want to explore more of my versatility as an actor now, one that is character-driven and it’s about time,” he states.

Now that he was given a chance to portray the character of Andrew Marcelo, the investigative partner of Iris Castillo del Rosario, Lovi’s character in Flower of Evil, JC did not hesitate and did not have second thoughts in accepting it.

“It’s something very different for me and it’s a big co-production with Viu International LTD. Yes, it’s a big deal and a great opportunity, and I am very fortunate to be a part of it,” explains the Kapamilya actor.

He adds, “This is something I would run out and chase for and I’m so thankful it ended up on my lap. And what an experience it was, and it was hard work, a good learning environment and it was a blast working with all these highly skilled professionals and co-actors on our Kapamilya set.”

JC has also done several other projects. He recently finished an entry in the forthcoming Cinemalaya festival titled Bakit ’Di Mo Sabihin scheduled for release in August.

In the film, he is paired with Janine Gutierrez for the first time.

“It’s not a typical love story, it’s another different concept, one of which we put a lot of our heart and soul into,” says JC.

This month, JC returns to romantic comedy in The Entitled, which is set to premiere on Netflix at month’s end.

He co-stars with Alex Gonzaga with Direk Theodore Boborol at the helm.

Meanwhile, catch JC in Flower of Evil aired every Saturday and Sunday, 9 p.m., on the Kapamilya Channel and A2Z and on Viu every Thursday and Friday, 8 p.m.
