THE Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA), headed by Gov. Chavit Singson, is hoping to find more young and talented shooters and turn them into future Olympic champions.

National coach Fernando “Buboy” Mercado said encouraging young sons and daughters of former national shooters is another priority.

Enter Antonio Joseph and Monica Tish Javines, two of the brightest new finds in clay shooting.

AJ is 13 years old student of Ateneo de Manila while sister Monica is 10 years old student of Miriam College.

The Javines siblings are now entered in the beginners category.

Father Teddy Javines is one of the leading enthusiasts of shooting, while the mother is fully supporting the children’s passion for the sport.

Starting with Javines siblings, the PNSA and coach Mercado are planning to form a national junior team that will prepare for the coming international competitions.

“Nakakatuwa na may mga batang shooters tayo ngayon na talagang gustong mag excel sa mga international competitions. The Javines siblings have the potential,” said Mercado.

“We just have to encourage them and support them with their needs,” he added.

Inspired by the silver medal of Hagen Topacio in the recent 31st Southeast Asian Games, the Javines siblings are now regularly training at the PSC-PNSA Trap and Skeet ranges in Muntilupa City.

They train hard under the watchful eyes of national coach Mercado and Raul Ramon Arambulo with the hope of someday representing the country.
