Servant

It’s a must

AS public servants, government officials and employees, particularly those manning local government offices and agencies, must be courteous, polite and approachable.

In other words, public officials and employees, whether appointive or elective, shall extend prompt, courteous and adequate service to the citizens.

If not, these few misguided state employees will continue to tarnish the image of the government not only in the Philippines but also in the international community.

And public servants, particularly those occupying juicy positions, should remember that they are being paid by the money of the people, who pay direct and indirect taxes.

We are made to believe that the authorities are aware that there is a need to rid the bureaucracy of abusive personnel if we are to bring the government closer to the people.

“Pero paanong lalapit sa gobyerno ang taumbayan kung ang kausap nilang lingkod-bayan ay nakasimangot, nambubulyaw at walang kagalang-galang?” asked a rice farmer.

Section 2 of the landmark Republic Act (RA) No. 6713 declares that it is the policy of the government to promote a high standard of ethics in public service.

RA No. 6713 is otherwise known as the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Publlic Officials and Employees.”

Section 4 provides that public officials shall at all times respect the rights of others, and shall refrain from doing acts contrary to law, good morals, good customs and public interest.

As “servants of the people,” especially the beleaguered taxpayers, government officials and employees ought to serve the people with honesty, integrity and loyalty.

Hindi ba, Executive Secretary Vic Rodriquez at Civil Service Commission Chairman Karlo Nograles?
