KUNG nangyari sa akin, puwede ding mangyari sa mga anak ninyo. Tapos na ang panahon ng mga elitista. Basurero naman ngayon.”

Thus said Manila Mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko presidential bet Isko Moreno during his weekend visit to Payatas, Quezon City, where he met with residents and those who rely on scavenging as their main, if not only, source of livelihood.

Moreno told the Payatas residents not to give up hope, as he vowed to uplift their lives if he becomes the President of the country.

The mayor also told the residents that if they want real, honest change to come to their lives through the help of government, they should learn to ‘invest.’

“Kayo naman ang mamuhunan sa kandidato. Piso lang. Paki-text ninyo ang inyong mga kaanak, jowa, ex at kaibigan. Laban natin ito. Ang gobyerno kayang pataasin ang antas ng buhay ng mga tao at ‘yan ang aking gagawin para sa inyo,” said Moreno, who also grew up scavenging for discarded and recyclable materials in Smokey Mountain in Tondo, which is Manila’s counterpart of Payatas.

Moreno vowed to ensure a better future for the children of today, through good governance and give the poor the chance to get employment.
