Itchie CabayanMANILA Mayor Isko Moreno is the kind of politician who is never ashamed to admit that he copied an idea from another person or country. He is also one who knows how to give credit where it is due. Most of all, he is not the type who would overturn the achievements or projects of a predecessor for the purpose of politicking, credit-grabbing moreso, vengeance. In almost all of his speeches, he never forgets to credit his predecessors, particularly the late Mayor Arsenio Lacson, Mayor Antonio Villegas and Mayor Alfredo Lim for establishing free tertiary public education and public health care in the city of Manila.

Clearly, Mayor Kois is highly confident in himself and in what he had done so far for Manila and its people. After all, his ten-year agenda was accomplished in just two years’ time. Everything that he and his runningmate then, now Vice Mayor and Council Presiding Officer Honey Lacuna, had promised while campaigning for the 2019 elections, they were able to fulfill and even surpass. It is due to the expeditious fulfillment of such campaign promises and more that Mayor Kois’ presidential campaign slogan #BilisKilos came into being. When Mayor Kois assumed the mayorship in 2019, everyone was expecting him to exact vengeance after a bitter, ugly political feud with his predecessor, Erap Estrada. Instead, he extended a hand of friendship and focused on moving forward as fast as possible, specially with the city’s dire condition which he inherited. He did not dwell on the past, finger-pointing or the so-called blame game and fault-finding. This early, Mayor Kois had been making pronouncements that he will continue the “Build, Build, Build” projects of the Duterte administration once he becomes the next President of the country. Mayor Kois says he will continue the “Build, Build, Build” program of the current administration but with a new twist and this is, adding hospitals, school buildings and mass housing for ordinary people in the list.

Mayor Kois says he is not in favor of the usual practice of ‘erasing’ the projects done by a certain administration once there is a change in leadership. He is not the kind who would dwell on vindictiveness. This is in line with his vow to become a ‘healing president.’
