MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno called on those involved in criminal activities not to engage in Manila as they will certainly be busted, as he also told the Manila Police District (MPD) officials to watch out for illegal drugs that usually flood the market during election season.

Moreno said these, as he directed the filing of appropriate charges against seven drug suspects who were nabbed with some P5.6 million worth of shabu in separate buy-bust operations in San Miguel and Tondo. Moreno, along with Manila Police District (MPD) Director PBGen Leo Francisco, presented the suspects in a press conference held at the Manila City Hall late Tuesday afternoon, where he lauded the police for a job well done.

“Sinasabi ko naman paulit-ulit, huwag kayo sa Maynila gagawa ng krimen dahil tiyak na may kalalagyan kayo. Seryoso kami sa Maynila pagdating sa mga krimen, lalo na iligal na droga. Kung gusto ninyo magtrabaho ng ligal, welcome kayo sa Maynila pero pag gumawa kayo ng criminal activities, isosokpa namin kayo sa oblo. Pananagutin namin kayo sa mata ng batas,” Moreno said.

Moreno told Francisco to institute the filing of charges against suspects Nasfira Abdulla, 50, of San Miguel, Manila; Jonathan Balingit, 24; Esmelita Tumbagahan, 61; Renalyn Silverio, 40; Aldwin Castillo, 43; Anna Punzal, 40 and Mark Echalar, 42, all residents of Tondo, Manila.

The mayor said that based on a report from Francisco, first arrested by the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) of the MPD-Barbosa Police Station (PS14) was Abdulla, in an operation conducted at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, at No. 153 Marayat St. in San Miguel and which was based on tipped information.

Confiscated from Abdulla were seven transparent plastic bags and nine heat- sealed transparent sachets containing 735 grams of shabu worth P5.6 million. Also recovered were a digital weighing scale and P500 marked, buy-bust money. At 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) operatives from the MPD-Jose Abad Santos Police Station (PS7) arrested the six other suspects in a buy-bust operation at the corner of Raxabago and Juan Luna Streets in Tondo. Seized from them were about 100 grams of shabu worth P680,000. Moreno noted that each time election season draws near, illegal drug activities become rampant.

He lamented that while some politicians may benefit, the lives and future of the youngsters are being put at risk.

Moreno thus called on the MPD to always be alert against illegal drug activities and lauded them for the said big haul. He also commended Francisco and all the men and women of the MPD for keeping the city of Manila drug-free.
