MANILA Mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko presidential candidate Isko Moreno vowed to push for the recognition of motorcycle-taxis as a legitimate industry in the country and call for a review of Republic Act No. 11235, dubbed by riders as the “Doble Plaka Law”.

Moreno made the pronouncement as thousands of “Angkas” drivers trooped to the Manila City Hall to express support for his presidential run.

The mayor extolled the “Angkas” drivers for their assistance at the height of the pandemic by ferrying health frontliners based on an agreement with their company.

The mayor told the riders that once he becomes the leader of the country, he will ask the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) to include the recognition of motorcycle-taxis in its legislative agenda.

“I’ll guarantee you: in the LEDAC, I will make sure that that industry will be recognized by the State through enactment of law,” he said, adding that a law is needed for the motorcycle-taxis for the national government to formally recognize their sector.
