MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno began reporting back to work yesterday, a Sunday, two days after Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna did. Both have just recovered from COVID-19.

Sta. Ana Hospital Director Dr. Grace Padilla said that based on the medical certificate issued to the mayor by cardiologist Dr. Paul Lucas and Dr. Nerissa Sescon, chief of the Manila Infectious Disease Control Center (MIDCC) upon his discharge on August 25, the mayor could already resume his work on August 29.

Moreno continued attending to the voluminous documents that piled up and needed his signature and perusal, even if it was a weekend. The normal operations of local government units is normally Mondays to Fridays only.

The mayor also approved the release of some P64.5 million for the allowance of 22,636 senior citizens from District 6 and ordered Office of Senior Citizens’ Affairs head Marjun Isidro to ensure the swift distribution. The amount epresents the P500 monthly allowances of the said recipients.

The cash aid is part of the social amelioration package being given by the local government for persons with disabilities, students, solo parents and senior citizens.

Moreno said the senior citizens will receive P3,000 each, which covers the months of from January to June 2021, at P500 per month. The city had finished the distribution of the same kind of cash assistance to the elderlies from Districts 1 to 5.

Meanwhile, the mayor’s activities today, a holiday, include the groundbreaking of another housing program on Pedro Gil in Ermita.
