IPPC, UST clash
LOWER-RANKED squads IPPC and University of Santo Tomas open their best-of-three Finals on Saturday in the Liga Baseball Philippines.
The fourth-ranked Golden Sox go up against the No. 3 Hawks in Game 1 of best-of-three series set at 12:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
UST completed a reversal of No. 1 and defending UAAP champion National University, 6-5, in their Final Four decider last Sunday.
IPPC blanked second-ranked PK Holdings, 8-0, in the other do-or-die semifinals.
The Golden Sox ended the Bulldogs’ six-game winning streak with a 9-4 victory in their first Final Four duel, while the Hawks repulsed the Thunderz, 11-3, in the other pairing last July 21.
The Bulldogs and the Thunderz, who hold the twice-to-beat advantage in the semis for finishing 1-2 in the preliminaries that they eventually squandered, face off for third place at 8 a.m.
On Sunday, there will be an 8 a.m. exhibition game between the Philippine U18 team against NU prior to Game 2 of the UST-IPPC Finals.
