A person deprived of liberty (PDL) who is set to be discharged this month has expired on Tuesday after being shot by one of the escapees for refusing to open the gates during the January 7 escape from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

Bureau of Corrections spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag revealed this on Wednesday over CNN Philippines The Source.

“We have received news that the PDL na nabaril nila ay nag-expire na po at yun po ay palaya na sana within this month,” Chaclag said. “Binaril siya kasi ayaw niyang buksan ang gate.”

On Monday, four convicted PDLs have escaped from the densely-packed state penitentiary. They allegedly traded shots with guards on duty before they managed to get away towards the NBP Reservation Area in Sitio Magdaong.

At least four prison guards and one PDL were injured during the grand escape.

Two of the four convicts have been ‘neutralized’ during the combined police and BuCor manhunt operation.

They were identified as Arwin Bio and Pacifico Adlawan.

On the other hand, the third and fourth escapees, Drakilou Falcon and Chris Ablas, are still on the loose, and search operations are still being conducted as of this writing.

The NBP maximum security compound is now under lockdown while the manhunt for Ablas and Falcon is still underway.
