NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office director, Brigadier General Anthony A. Aberin on Sunday said they have recorded a notable 37.06 percent reduction in index crime in Metro Manila in February compared to the same month in 2024.

This significant improvement, which indicates a reduction of 202 cases, underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations, heightened police presence, and strengthened collaboration with communities by the NCRPO, the official said.

According to the NCRPO chief, their law enforcement efforts continue to enhance public safety in the metropolis as crime volume fell from 545 cases in February 2024 to 343 in February 2025.

Among the most notable reductions during the two comparative periods, he said, were murder cases which dropped by 41.94 percent or from 31 to 18 while homicide declined by 25.00 percent or from 12 to 9 cases.

Reports of physical injuries and rape cases both saw nearly 50 percent decreases, with physical injuries dropping from 57 to 29 cases (-49.12 percent) and rape cases falling from 91 to 46 cases (-49.45 percent).

Meanwhile, robbery cases declined by 33.73 percent or from 83 to 55, and theft cases dropped by 33.62 percent or from 229 to 152.

Car theft cases in February also showed improvements, with motor vehicle theft dropping by 57.14 percent or from seven to three cases, and motorcycle theft decreasing by 11.43 percent or from 35 to 31 cases.

Additionally, the. NCRPO’s crime solution efficiency rose by 8.68 percentage points, from 67.71 percent in February 2024 to 76.38 percent in February this year, reinforcing the NCRPO’s commitment to swift case resolution and ensuring justice.

The Metro Manila police chief also assured the public that the data is based on verified records from the Crime Information, Reporting, and Analysis System (CIRAS) of the Philippine National and acknowledged concerns about public perception.

“We understand that some may not immediately feel the impact of these improvements, but the numbers speak for themselves. This decline is a result of strengthened police visibility, intelligence-driven operations, and deepened community engagement. While challenges remain, the NCRPO remains committed to ensuring that every resident not only sees these improvements in data but also experiences them in their daily lives,” he explained.

However, Brig. Gen. Aberin said that despite this overall decline, the NCRPO remains vigilant in addressing emerging crime trends, including the enforcement of targeted strategies to further curb vehicle-related crimes.

By maintaining intensified police presence and intelligence-driven operations, the NCRPO ensures that Metro Manila remains on a steady path toward safety and security, he said.
