PASIG City is set to dethrone Baguio City as the overall champion of the 2024 Batang Pinoy National Championships.
As of Nov. 28, Pasig leads the way with an impressive haul of 83 golds, 49 silvers, and 88 bronzes.
Baguio, the four-time defending champion, is a far second overall with 63 golds, 53 silvers, and 58 bronzes.
Quezon City ranks third with 45 golds, 43 silvers, and 45 bronzes, followed by Davao City in fourth place (35-35-28) and Cebu City in fifth place (28-32-27).
Pasig City’s dominance is evident in the swimming competition, where it secured 11 golds, 9 silvers, and 11 bronzes for 31 medals.
Quezon City matched the total medal count with 10 golds, 14 silvers, and 7 bronzes. San Fernando City finished third with 7 golds, 4 silvers, and 1 bronze, while Pampanga Province (6-3-4) and Taguig City (5-2-4) rounded out the top five.
Pasig’s Arvin Naeem Taguinota II emerged as the most bemedaled swimmer after claiming six golds and one silver.
Biñan City sprinter Pi Durden Forward Wangkay set a new meet record in the boys’ under-16 100-meter sprint, clocking 10.88 seconds to win gold at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex.
The 15-year-old bested Calamba’s Joel Platon (11.38) and South Cotabato’s Philip James Gestosani (11.43), who took silver and bronze, respectively.
In the under-18 athletics events, Angel Villagracia of Capiz won gold in the women’s 100 meters with a time of 12.74 seconds.
In the men’s side, Quezon City’s Elreb Taduran claimed the gold medal clocking 11.08 over 11.15 of San Jose Del Monte’s Kenneth Martin and Jehjireh Alcantara of Catanduanes (11.23).
In chess, Christian Gian Karlo Arca of Davao del Norte captured the gold medal in the boys’ under-15 standard individual category.
Laguna’s Gabriel Siano and Mark Gabriel Usman took the silver and bronze, respectively.
In the girls’ 16-17 under standard individual category, April Joy Claros of Angeles City won gold, defeating Angel Nheazy Nicole of Leyte (silver) and Trina Mhariz Temple of Pasig City (bronze)..
