Imus Cathedral’s historic bells as next tourist attraction

IMUS CITY, Cavite – It became an attraction around the historic Our Lady of Pillar Cathedral, the 4 old church bells, located on the right side of the front of the church in Barangay Poblacion 1-C here.

The biggest bell (third in row) bears the name of San Andres Corsino and weighs 19 aroban and 7 libras The inscription on the bell states: “San Andres Cdrsino De 70 A Ymus año 1873”.

The second biggest bell (last in row) was cast on July 20, 1867, during the tenure of Fray Jose Varela de la Consolacion, OAR. The inscription on the bell states: “Ntra. Sra. Del Pilar sindo el cura; P. Fr. Jose Varela Patrona del Pueblo de Imus Fundida en 20 de Julio 1867 siendo el cura P. Fr. Jose Varela”.

The smallest bell (first in row) was named after Santa Teresa de Jesus (Avila). It was made during the tenure of Fr. Jose Ma Learte, OAR. Casted by the Fundicion de Hilario Sunico.

It was re-casted on December 25, 1883. The inscription on the bell states: “Sta. Teresa de Jesus EI R. P. Fr. Jose Ma Learte Fundicion Hilario Sunico 25 de Diciembre Refundido en 25 Diciembre año 1883”.

Another bell (second in row) was acquired by the Parish during the time of Parish priest, Monsignor Pedro N-Abad, through the efforts of Jose Espiritu, cooperator, in the year 1968.

This structure was made possible through the efforts of Imus City Congressman Alex “AA” Advincula and was inaugurated last February 8, 2022.
