Illegal sellers of fake agri products captured in Taguig sting
TWO men engaged in the sale and distribution of fake agricultural products in Metro Manila were arrested in an entrapment operation in Taguig City.
Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, Brigadier General Nicolas D. Torre III identified the suspects only through their aliases ‘Mary Ann’ and ‘Israel’. They were arrested during the entrapment operation at Lucky Farmers Fruits and Grocery Store on Veterans Road in Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig City.
Brig. Gen. Torre said the two were placed under arrest by undercover officers from the CIDG National Capital Region Field Unit amid their intensified crackdown against economic saboteurs.
With the support of officers from the Southern Police District, the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Plant Industry and the Taguig City Veterinary Office, the CIDG operatives launched the operation following a ‘test buy’ wherein an undercover agent managed to buy a white imported scallion from the duo.
A check with the BPI showed that the suspects were not authorized to distribute and sell such agricultural products.
Prior to that, the CIDG-NCRFU received a report regarding the suspects’ involvement in the rampant sale of imported agricultural products without any government permit.
The suspects will be charged with violation of Republic Act 7394 or The Consumer Act of the Philippines.
