Illegal gambling

EVERYBODY agrees that illegal gambling remains a major headache of the government not only in the heavily-populated Metropolitan Manila (MM) area but elsewhere.

And the alarming situation has enraged parents, school authorities, well-meaning barangay officials and religious leaders.

Thus, we laud the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) for ordering its field commanders to hit hard at illegal gamblers.

NCRPO chief B/Gen. Anthony Aberin told his station commanders to intensify illegal gambling operations in their areas of jurisdiction.

The strict but fair Aberin warned that PNP officers and men found involved in illegal gambling face criminal and administrative raps.

Records show that from November 23 to December 20, 2024, a total of 2,010 were arrested during 808 anti-illegal gambling operations in MM.

Police operatives also seized almost P500,000 cash, according to General Aberin.

“We are committed to eradicating these illegal (gambling) activities that harm our communities,” the NCRPO top honcho declared.

“Talagang perhuwisyo ang dulot ng illegal gambling. Ang mga bata ay isinusugal ang baon nilang pera at ang mga nanay at tatay ay itinataya pa sa jueterng ang pambili ng bigas o ulam,” a village official lamented.

The PNP deserves the support of everybody as it intensifies efforts to address illegal gambling across the country.
