AN anti-narcotics operation in Mabalacat City in Pampanga on Friday night ended up in a gunbattle which left a “high-value target” (HVT) and an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) dead.

A report to new PDEA chair, Director General Moro Virgilio M. Lazo, said that the gunfight erupted in Barangay San Francisco in Mabalacat City around 8:30 p.m. Friday shortly after the suspect with the alias “Noime Daracab” sensed he was dealing with an undercover officer.

The suspect immediately pulled out a concealed firearm and shot the anti-drugs agent in the head before other members of the team from the PDEA Pampanga Provincial Office returned fire, killing the former on the spot.

Recovered from the possession of the slain suspect were a knot-tied plastic sachet containing an estimated 50 grams of shabu worth P340,000, the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill, and a chamber-loaded caliber .45 pistol with a magazine containing several live ammunition.

The PDEA has mourned the death of the agent, the latest anti-narcotics agent to be killed in the line of duty. He will be given all benefits due to him as well as a hero’s burial.
