THE spokesperson of the Hugpong para kay Sara movement on Thursday vowed to remain steadfast in convincing Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to run for president in the 2022 national elections.

Deputy Speaker and Bagong Henerasyon (BH) party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera was reacting to reports that the Davao City Mayor will no longer run in 2022 after her father, President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte accepted the nomination of a faction of the ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) to be the running mate of Sen. Bong Go.

“Mayor Sara said she is not running for a national position as she agreed with her father that only one of them will run in 2022. HPS still believes that Mayor Sara is the most qualified among potential candidates to run for president,” Herrera said.

Herrera said they will proceed with the scheduled official launching of HPS on Monday, September 13. “Tuloy pa din tayo sa launching on Monday,” Herrera said.

HPS, a citizens movement comprising of various groups, academe, lawmakers and marginalized sector, is formed to convince Mayor Duterte to run for the highest post of the land.

Alexis Macusi of Solid Sara Tarlac HPS chapter said,” Lubos naming ikinalulungkot ang balitang hangarin ni Pres.

“We’ve set up HPS, and is now snowballing through the regions as people from all sectors, walks of life, and political inclinations are joining it as we go along,” declared Herrera.

The number of organizations and individuals in the country and overseas throwing their support for HPS continue to increase with chapters in National Capital Region (NCR), and other regions, including supporters worldwide in the Middle east, Canada and the USA.
